Notice: Function _load_textdomain_just_in_time was called incorrectly. Translation loading for the wpforms domain was triggered too early. This is usually an indicator for some code in the plugin or theme running too early. Translations should be loaded at the init action or later. Please see Debugging in WordPress for more information. Creative Fields | UI/UX Design {re-platform + re-design}

Programs/Mediums | Sketch + Invision + Magento 2

Summary & Results | The goal of this project was to re-design the Vicks website and re-platform it on to Magento. This was a design only project for Helen of Tory, the parent company of many brands including Vicks, Braun, Honeywell and PUR. The goal was to create a template design based in UX research and best practices for the Vicks brand, that we could then apply to the rest of their brands. We would then work with the Helen of Troy in-house development team to re-platform to Magento.

We kicked off the project with a multi-day UX workshop to define client goals and solutions. Although the focus was primarily on Vicks, we met with stakeholders from all four brands, presented them with our overall vision, and collected any high level concerns or goals from each brand stakeholder.

From there the UI work began, creating a design system to apply to the Vicks website based on clients existing branding and desire to shift towards a cleaner aesthetic. Once styles were defined, the UX goals from workshop were taken in to consideration. This was one of Blue Acorns most robust projects to date, as we designed the following page levels for desktop and mobile breakpoints: Homepage, Navigation, Global Header & Footer, Product Listing Page, Product Details Page , Product Details Page + A+ Content, Cart & Checkout, My Account, FAQ, Wizard/Buying Guides, Blog Framework

The design process was that we tackled one of the above page types each week, allowing time for feedback and revision cycles. Throughout this process we consulted with Business Strategists and Developers to ensure we were taking the best path forward to solution for the client on the Magento platform. The client was very UX and best practice focused, with an eye on DTC functionality, which led to many discussions and presentations pulling from best practice knowledge that I would research each week. Once designs were finalized, we passed off a Functional Design Spec document to development, detailing the functional intention behind the designs. We continued an on-going relationship, QAing their development work and partnering with them to ensure the function of the designs was maintained. The result was a beautiful Vicks website that will be launching in Fall of 2020.

Immediately following this templated approach, we brought on a junior designer, Katie Petterson, to the project. I assumed a role of CD/UX Director, guiding the styles selected for each brand and ensuring that the designs adhered to the Vicks templated, and only deviated when necessary. Additionally this gave me the rewarding opportunity to have many discussions with Katie about the decisions I made for Vicks and why, in the hopes she could learn from my process and together we could iterate on it for future work.
